Douro
The Quinta do Zimbro vineyard is situated in the Douro Superior, on the banks of the Ribalonga (Tua River). The long history of Quinta do Zimbro dates back to 1875 when the vineyard was owned by the company Feuerheer & Cª Lda. In historic documents, there is a register of a vintage port from Quinta do Zimbro in 1875. Years later, the business was bought by Barros & Almeida.
Today, Quinta do Zimbro is owned by Mr Manuel Pinto Hespanhol and in 2003 he acquired the trademark ‘Zimbro’ from Barros & Almeida. It was also in 2003 that Manuel first launched his award-winning and popular Douro red wine, Zimbro, from the grapes harvested that year. His successful range of wines also includes a red, white and rosé Calços do Tanha, and Poleiros red wine.
Quinta Da Sequeira
Quinta da Sequeira, a family-owned estate located in Vila Nova de Foz Côa in the Douro Superior, was founded in 1899 as a port-making enterprise by José Joaquim Costa and his wife Maria José Sequeira, from whom the Quinta gets its name.
Today the estate is owned by José Joaquim Costa’s great-great-granddaughter, Maria da Graça, a dental surgeon, and her husband, Mário Cardoso, a master of structural engineering. In 2001 the couple decided to dedicate the estate exclusively to producing high-quality table wines, selecting only the best grapes from the vineyard (some vines are over 100 years old). Ageing and bottling take place on the estate.
Wines such as the dense and complex Quinta da Sequeira Reserva with notes of wood and blackberry fruit, as well as the dark, intense and blackberry-fruited Quinta da Sequeira Grande Reserva, and the splendid Quinta da Sequeira Colheita Tardia Branco 2006 (made from 100 per cent Malvasia Fina grapes), all exemplify the best of Quinta da Sequeira.
